Zero Punctuation: Monopoly by jazaaboo Zero Punctuation: Monopoly by jazaaboo
Yahtzee can be funny and does make some good points*, but dude's got some weird opinions on multiplayer. Some games are just meant to be played with other people, guy! That doesn't make them any less valid!

Also he acts like games devoid of story have no "staying power," which makes a lot of sense since everyone knows the plot found in Tetris is one of the greatest epics ever written.

(* I do find it kind of hilarious when he states the obvious as if it's some intelligent revelation, though. "Hey guys! I just realized why people like zombie stories! Zombies are a common enemy everyone can rally against and there's no guilt in killing them!" Uh... no crap?)

one thing you gotta understand about yahtzee is that he even takes games he loves and takes the littlest annoyances and bloats them to comedic effect. its very effective since when he does praise a game with no complaints, you go check outside to see if the sky hasn't fallen. like with portal. i paused the video. left my cave i haven't been out of in eons. looked outside. said "the light! it burns!". came back in and went "nope, sky hasn't fallen. back to yahtzee!" i think he even made it a point to point it out in one of his views.

Fun fact: Extra Credits was lightly modeled after Zero Punctuation according to the artist.

Yeah, his views on Multiplayer are pretty much the only thing I disagree with. I can kind of see where he's coming from since if a game focusses on multiplayer as the hook, there doesn't seem to be much point in making a half-arsed single-player campaign to go alongside it. But then again in some instances both the single and multiplayer can sit alongside eachother quite happily such as in Demons'/Dark Souls and Borderlands 2...

Another reason he gave at one point is the fact Multiplayer will always have elements that get in the way of a balanced verdict such as community, lag, exploits and server activity. On the other hand there seem to be plenty of things to discuss in multiplayer as well such as game modes, equipment balancing, gameplay info, how much the game encourages teamwork or not, etc.

Overall I think his point about a game being able to stand up on single player is more based around his view of tacking on single player to a multiplayer-focussed game (e.g. COD). If I can't have as much fun playing on my own as I can in multiplayer, why even have singleplayer?

As for the story point, I'm not sure if he explicitly said a game must have a good story all the time, but as with single & multiplayer, if a game does have a story, you'd better make sure it's good unless your gameplay is absolutley miraculous.

I think that the fact he hates multiplayer not only alludes to his status as a soulless misanthrope, but because if he was ever to play against someone, he would fail so epically, that his children would be born with a k/d of 0

He'd be right, though; Monopoly sucks.

Especially how a losing player falls out of the game and is forced to just watch the others finish it, taking out most of the fun. :(

Yeah. At least in an FPS shooter, when you die, you respawn after a short wait.
